Text by Tim Weerdenburg. This series is part of my graduation project in which I focus on masculinity and femininity in fashion photography. My works encourage the viewer to appreciate seemingly stereotypical beauty and challenges them to refrain from thinking in terms of rights and wrongs. Watching the Bold and the Beautiful as a youngster on the couch, I was amazed by the glam and appeal of all portrait in the series. I feel that there's a genuine authenticity in this visual language and theme. Whereas nowadays we tend to mark outings as good or bad, through my project I'd like to encourage the open view.
In this particular series, I intended to portray a young couple reflecting on and exploring themselves as well as each other. I wanted to create a mechanical, futuristic setting in which we are looking at almost doll-like, lifeless youngsters, representing physical perfection as well as the search for more.
