Neraïda is the nymph of the water. They are thought to inhabit streams, lakes and the ocean and are depicted as a minor goddess of Greek mythology. The term “Neraïda” derives from the ancient nêrêis, which refers to the daughters of Nereus (A sea nymph). In modern usage, it refers to a group of supernatural females who inhabit not only the water but also wild spaces in general. The ancient meaning also retains the meaning of “bride” which informed the silhouette development of the collection, drawing a subtil parallel to the multifaceted roles and expectations placed upon women.

The myths of the Neraïda vary in their interpretation from nature goddess to seductive and evil femme fatale. They combined the forbidden allure of the virgin Artemis and the lust of the sexual awareness of Aphrodite. The interaction between nymphs and men are unusual and don’t reflect the societal norm because mortal men are inferior to the nymph‘s supernatural powers, which overwhelms the assumed superiority of the male which often manifests in a central narrative around her desire. This

defiance mirrors a contemporary narrative wherein women continue to challenge social norms and redefine their roles, desires, and aspirations.

Their story created an anchor to the modern role of women and the collection serves as a reminder that women, much like the Neraïda, are caught in a nuanced interplay of societal expectations, desires, and self-discovery. The ancient myth and contemporary reality invites reflection on the fluid and dynamic nature of womanhood, transcending boundaries and defying expectations.
